THE BEST OYSTER HAPPY HOUR IN TOWN PERIOD! As the chill sets in my mind immediately goes to oysters, yum! They are available year round but something about the cooler weather makes me crave them. I often wondered why they named their restaurant “The Ordinary” because my experiences here have been extraordinary! The venue is simply gorgeous and I really love the outdoor patio!
Most of the oyster happy hours in town are pre-chosen selections by the restaurant. At The Ordinary, you choose your variety from their impressive selection! I like to have two local selections and two from the Northeast. That way I get a variety of flavors and level of brininess. Served with mignonettes, lemon, cocktail sauce and horseradish, it is a perfect shared starter.
My husband insisted on ordering the pumpkin, something I would have never tried, but our server’s description had peaked his interest. Who knew pumpkin could blow you away!
Fish head fish cake? Oh yes please! Before you go green, let me explain. It isn’t the eyeballs or yucky bits. This fish cake is made from the prized cheeks and foreheads of the fish. The best parts! They honored this delicacy by preparing a perfect dish. A thin crunchy yet delicate breading held together the fish prime pieces and the sauce was perfectly balanced. It didn’t take over the fish, it complimented it beautifully!
Don’t let the name full you! The Ordinary is a beautiful venue to enjoy some extraordinary dishes prepared with expertise and care.
One of my favorite buildings in Charleston! Just look at those windows!
The dinning room is classic Charleston, elegant yet informal.
Our first visit, we sat at the window seat to enjoy the view.
The outdoor patio is gorgeous and comfortable.
I love that they label the oyster tray so you know exactly which variety you are tasting!
Not like any pumpkin I have ever had!
Fish head cake, I know it’s a bit blurry. I had to enhance it since we were outside with poor lighting but it was magnificent!
Milk Punch! It takes two days to produce this cocktail and the flavors they create are complex and delicious!
Darjeeling Limited. My husbands favorite cocktail here, probably because it has tea in it (he is British) but it is very tasty and his go-to cocktail!
