Getting Around Charleston
One of the biggest challenges for our visitors (and natives) is navigating our narrow streets, one-way streets, construction detours and parking. Add in a thriving college student presence and it gets even more interesting. You are likely to see skateboarders, cyclists, golf carts, and mopeds all sharing road space. I’m not trying to intimidate you, but plan to be extra cautious while driving! Also, while walking keep your wits about you. Student drivers are sharing the road too.
If you do plan on driving, here is some helpful information about parking your vehicle. It is a tricky situation but it is possible!
If you decide to park in residential areas, make sure you are not blocking any driveways and check the posted signs for how long your car can remain there. It varies depending on which area you are parked. Parking Enforcement will ticket and boot your car! If it remains long enough, I’ve watched cars getting towed on a daily basis! Street sweeping occurs at different times in different areas so make sure you are not parked on street sweeping day!
